Network monitoring: knowing before the customer does

Usually you find out the network is down when a customer complains or the till stops taking payments. With monitoring, the alert arrives first, with the cause identified.

What gets watched

  • The internet connection: whether it's down, losing packets or has switched to the backup line.
  • Network equipment: router, switches and access points powered on and responding.
  • WiFi: devices per access point, interference and overloaded points.
  • Servers and NAS: disk space, disk health and backup status.
  • Cameras and recorder: disconnected cameras or stopped recording.
  • The UPS: whether it's running on battery and how much runtime is left.
  • Rack temperature.

Alerts that help

A system that alerts on everything ends up ignored. What works is a few clear alerts sent to whoever can act:

  • Critical: no internet, recorder down, failed disk. Immediate alert.
  • Important: an access point down, a failed backup. Same-day alert.
  • Informational: pending updates, disk at 80%. In a periodic summary.

History and trends

As well as alerting, monitoring stores data: when the connection drops, what times WiFi saturates, how fast disk use grows. With that history you decide based on facts and can show the operator proof of an intermittent fault.

Remote diagnosis

Many issues are fixed without a visit: restarting a port, changing a WiFi channel, finding which device is using up the connection. And when a visit is needed, the technician already knows which part to bring.

Who benefits most

  • Hotels and restaurants, where an outage affects guests.
  • Offices that depend on the network to work.
  • Second homes, where nobody is there to notice.
  • Any installation with connected cameras, alarm or automation.

What you need

Managed network equipment that reports its status, and a platform that collects the data and sends alerts. It's included in our maintenance service.

Frequently asked questions

Does monitoring see what I do online?

No. It watches the status and performance of equipment and the connection, not the content of communications.

Does it work if the internet goes down?

The outage itself triggers the alert from outside: the platform notices the installation has stopped responding.
