Open source CRM and invoicing: Twenty and Dolibarr

A CRM helps you sell; an ERP helps you manage what you sell. Twenty and Dolibarr are two open source tools that cover both needs.

CRM and ERP are not the same

  • A CRM (customer relationship management) organises contacts, companies, conversations and sales opportunities. It answers "who are we talking to, and where is each deal?".
  • An ERP (enterprise resource planning) handles operations: quotes, orders, invoices, payments, suppliers and stock. It answers "what have we sold, invoiced and collected?".

Twenty: a modern CRM

Twenty is an open source CRM with a modern interface, designed as an alternative to subscription CRMs. It lets you manage contacts, companies and opportunities, organise sales by stage, add notes and tasks, create custom fields and connect it to other tools via API. It can be self-hosted.

Dolibarr: modular management

Dolibarr is a long-established open source ERP and CRM. It works through modules you switch on as needed:

  • Third parties (customers and suppliers).
  • Quotes, orders and invoices, with customisable templates.
  • Payments received, payments made and bank accounts.
  • Products, services and stock.
  • Projects, calendar, expenses and point of sale.

It's multilingual and lets you configure tax rates, such as Andorran IGI.

One, the other or both?

  • Dolibarr only: if the main need is invoicing and tracking payments and stock, with simple sales management. Its basic CRM module may be enough.
  • Twenty only: if the business relies on a long sales process and invoicing is already handled by an accountant or another program.
  • Both: Twenty for the sales team and Dolibarr for administration, connected to avoid duplicate data.

Moving off spreadsheets

Contacts, customers and products can be imported from spreadsheets or exports from other programs. It's worth using the migration to remove duplicates and standardise formats.

Frequently asked questions

Does Dolibarr replace my accountant?

No. Dolibarr helps you issue invoices and keep track day to day; official bookkeeping and tax obligations remain your accountant's job, and they can receive the exported data.
