What is Loxone and how does it work?

Loxone is an all-in-one home automation system from a single manufacturer, designed so the home doesn't just get controlled, but runs itself.

One central brain: the Miniserver

At the heart of Loxone is the Miniserver, a small controller mounted in the distribution board. It receives information from every sensor and decides what to do: switch lights, move blinds, adjust the climate or report an issue.

Tree and Air

  • Tree: Loxone's wired technology, with a flexible topology that simplifies cabling in new builds and full renovations.
  • Air: the wireless range, for adding devices where cable can't be run or in renovations.

Both can be combined in the same installation.

Automation, not just control

Loxone's idea is that the home acts on its own: blinds follow the sun, climate adapts to presence and time of day, lights switch off when nobody's around. The app is for occasional use, not for doing everything by hand.

How it's programmed

The integrator configures the installation with the manufacturer's software (Loxone Config). It's important that they hand over the configuration file and access credentials to the owner, so the installation doesn't depend on one person.

Who it suits best

  • Detached houses with lots of automation.
  • Second homes managed remotely.
  • Small businesses wanting lighting, climate and security in one app.

Frequently asked questions

Does Loxone work without internet?

Yes. The Miniserver runs locally; internet is only needed for remote access and notifications.
