KNX or Loxone? Which system to choose for your home or building

Both are professional, reliable systems. The question isn't which is better, but which fits your project better.

The fundamental difference

KNX is an open standard: an international specification followed by hundreds of manufacturers. Intelligence is distributed across devices, and you can mix brands.

Loxone is an all-in-one system from a single manufacturer, with a central server (Miniserver) that coordinates all the logic. It's very powerful for automation and has a very complete ecosystem of its own.

Costs depend heavily on scope; in residential projects they're often comparable. We always assess them with a concrete quote.

When we recommend KNX

  • New builds or full renovations meant to last.
  • Hotels, offices and developments wanting a standard.
  • Projects where switch and panel design is a priority.

When we recommend Loxone

  • Detached houses and second homes with lots of automation.
  • Renovations where building work must be kept to a minimum.
  • Clients who want one very complete app for everything.

What if I already have a system?

It can almost always be extended or integrated. We start with an audit of what's there.
