What it offers

  • A huge range of integrations: lighting, heating, smart plugs, sensors, cameras, solar inverters, appliances and voice assistants from different manufacturers.
  • Local control: it runs inside your network; internet is only needed for remote access or services that require it.
  • Powerful automations: based on time, presence, sun, power use, sensors or any combination.
  • Custom dashboards for phone, tablet or wall display.
  • Energy: tracking of consumption and solar production.

Home Assistant and KNX

Home Assistant has a KNX integration. In a professional installation, the KNX system keeps handling the critical functions (lights, blinds, heating) on its own, and Home Assistant can add a visualisation layer, integrations with other brands and advanced automations. If Home Assistant stops, the house keeps working.

What to keep in mind

  • It needs maintenance: frequent updates and checking that integrations still work.
  • Reliable hardware: a dedicated device with automatic backups, not an improvised gadget.
  • Documentation: automations should be documented so they don't depend on one person.

When it makes sense

  • Homes with devices from many brands that need bringing together.
  • KNX installations that need extra integrations.
  • Energy monitoring with solar panels, a battery or an EV charger.

Frequently asked questions

Can it replace KNX or Loxone?

In a small home or a renovation it can be the main system. For a large or high-end installation we recommend a professional system as the backbone and Home Assistant as a complement.
