How to upgrade an older home's technology without major works

Many homes were built before WiFi existed. They can be brought up to date without lifting floors or opening walls, if each solution is chosen carefully.

1. Network first

We check existing conduits (phone, TV aerial, empty electrical conduits) to run network cable to key points. Where that isn't possible, we look at alternatives such as wireless links between access points.

2. WiFi throughout

Well-placed access points, wired where possible, instead of extenders.

3. Wireless security

Professional wireless alarms install in a few hours, with no building work.

4. Heating

Wireless thermostats and radiator heads for room-by-room heating control.

5. Lights and blinds

Modules fitted behind existing switches, or blind motors installed in the existing housing.

6. In phases

There's no need to do everything at once. We start with what adds most value (connectivity and security) and prepare for what comes next.

What if a renovation is planned?

Then it's the time to run cable and do a full wired installation. It's worth coordinating before work starts.
