DECT IP phones: mobility for hotels and businesses
Front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, kitchen or warehouse staff need to be reachable without staying by a desk. DECT cordless phones connected to the IP phone system solve this.
What DECT is
DECT is a cordless telephony standard that, in Europe, uses its own dedicated frequency band, separate from WiFi. It doesn't compete with guests' phones and laptops, and voice stays stable.
How a building is covered
- One or more DECT base stations connected to the network and powered over PoE.
- A coverage survey to decide how many and where, allowing for walls, floors and basements.
- In multi-cell systems, the handset hands over from one base station to the next without dropping the call as you move.
Typical uses
- Hotels: front desk, housekeeping, maintenance and security.
- Restaurants: taking bookings from the dining room or kitchen.
- Shops and warehouses: answering calls from anywhere on the floor.
- Large homes: phones on every floor, integrated with the video intercom.
DECT or WiFi
WiFi phones exist, but they depend on WiFi designed for voice. For staff on the move all day, DECT is usually more robust and has longer battery life.
Frequently asked questions
Can I open the door from a DECT phone?
If the video intercom is SIP-compatible and integrated with the phone system, you can answer the door call and open it from the handset.
