Outdoor WiFi: terraces, gardens and pools

The signal from an indoor router rarely reaches outside well. Getting WiFi outdoors needs equipment and installation designed for the elements.

Why indoor WiFi doesn't reach outside

Façades, thermally coated glazing and thick walls block the signal. On a restaurant terrace or in a garden, coverage from inside is usually weak and unstable.

Outdoor access points

You need a purpose-built outdoor access point: sealed against rain and snow, rated for low temperatures and with antennas aimed at the area to cover. In Andorra, cold and snow make equipment and installation quality especially important.

Cable and PoE

The access point connects via network cable and is powered over the same cable (PoE). No socket is needed on the façade and the signal gets full speed.

Typical uses

  • Restaurants and bars: terrace guest WiFi kept separate from the business network.
  • Hotels: pool, garden, ski room or car park.
  • Homes: garden, porch, pool, garage or outbuilding.
  • Security: the same network serves outdoor cameras.

Roaming

If indoor and outdoor access points are part of the same managed network, phones move between inside and outside without dropping.
